The fact is the PBO is like any economic think tank. He bases his analysis on facts, speculation etc. etc. just like any economist. So he can make the figures as rosy or as negative as he wants. You can put 20 economists in a room and you will get 20 opinions. What's the point? The government issues a budget each year based on the average of private sector economists at the time. The economy is dynamic and the situation is fluid and changes all the time so what maybe the reality today will not be the reality tomorrow. We also have the Auditor General who reviews government departments on an ongoing basis.
How many people do we need to speculate on the future finances of the country. It is simply another bureaucratic exercise eating up precious taxpayer money.
